The Support We Offer
In all Cases
CAPP BEGINS WITH ASSESSMENT
When approaching any individual or family mental health concerns we provide a comprehensive, psychosocial evaluation
appropriate to the referring problem. When a presenting problem concerns a child, this consists of a series of child and family sessions
with a focus on child development and parenting. In addition to interviews and play sessions we may gather information in discussions with teachers, school observations, psychometric tests, home visits, and video analysis of aren't child interactions. We take time at the beginning to understand the context as well as the content of the concerns. identify current difficulties and strengths.
Child Therapy

We believe the individual needs of each situation should determine the therapeutic approach. Consequently, while we view all children within the context of their family, the actual work may be child-centered, family-centered, parent-centered, or school-centered. We meet with children individually and with their families in a play-therapy environment, so that children have the opportunity to express themselves through play using toys that match their development and interests.
Parent Guidance
When working with parents concerning their children but without the child present we offer a variety of services including parent guidance, educational sessions and advocacy support.
Family Therapy

Family therapy is fundamental to helping families practice healthy attachment, love and positive connection. The attachments within the primary family unit are the building blocks of healing for all the individuals within that system.
Teen and Adult Counseling
We provide individual counseling for teenagers and adults. Because we believe that individuals need positive relationships to be healthy we often recommend participation in the couples, family and group therapy we can provide.
Group Therapy
Offering groups allows us to help people who identify with specific struggles to communicate with and support each other in a safe setting. In group work we can facilitate connections and deeper understanding.
Staff Training

The Children and Parents Project works with staff from area schools and agencies to support them to better function as a team. Training also helps staff gain skills and awareness of development and attachment in their lives and the lives of those they are working to help.
Larger Systems Consultation

We provide support to larger agencies and businesses who are struggling to be productive or who are experiencing staff dissatisfaction. After a thorough assessment process designed specifically to better understand underlying causes of the problems, a thorough report will be provided with recommendations for change.
Internships, Supervision and Consultation

The Children and Parents Project has a long history of creating internships for Second Year Graduate Students interested in learning a comprehensive assessment and developmental model that focuses on attachment. In addition, we offer Supervision to Post-Graduate Counselors and Social Workers who need supervision hours and case time for licensure. After obtaining their professional license many therapists continue to work with their CAPP mentor consultatively. Other counselors and social workers who are working independently or without adequate support or ongoing training find it helpful to meet with one of our staff consultatively .
